Paperitif was founded upon our interest in the lifestyle based on principles such as zero waste, less waste, and sustainable development, as well as our fascination by what environmental innovations have to offer. Our activity is also based on unambiguous statistics: today, the estimated use of plastic by one person per year is as high as 100 kilograms. In 4 years this number is expected to rise to 140 kilograms. Worldwide, every minute there are 1 million plastic bottles being sold. About 1 trillion single-use plastic bags are used annually across the globe. Yearly, humanity produces 300 million tonnes of plastic, which is almost as much as its combined body weight.

The problem is particularly pronounced in the sea and ocean water. According to WHO, there are 100 million tonnes of plastic drifting on the ocean water surface. Sea animals tend to mistake plastic waste for food. Once eaten, they remain in their bodies and might even land on our plates whilst we consume seafood.

We are aware that it is impossible to phase out plastic overnight. Nonetheless, we believe that the start of this change lays in our everyday actions and habits. Even by little steps, such as: giving up plastic straws, bags, and containers, we can positively influence the condition of our environment. By providing products which are not harmful to health and environment, we aim to not only be a part of the change but also allow others to follow suit.
